Academic rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced its Sustainability Rankings for 2024. This year, QS ranked world universities according to “Social Impact”, “Environmental Impact” and the newly added “Governance” categories.

Number of universities evaluated in the overall ranking increased from 700 to 1403 compared to last year, the number of universities in our country that qualified to enter the QS Sustainability 2024 list increased from 11 to 24.

According to QS 2024 Sustainability overall rankings, ITU ranked 221st among 1403 higher education institutions in the world. While it ranked 148th in the world in the “Environmental Impact” category, it maintained its position as the leading university in Türkiye. In addition, ITU ranked 153rd in the “Governance” category and 400th in the “Social Impact” category. Although the number of evaluated universities doubled compared to last year, ITU managed to continue rising in percentiles.

QS Sustainability 2023
700 universities from the world and 11 universities from Türkiye were qualified to enter the overall rankings in 2023. According to the QS 2023 Sustainability overall rankings, ITU ranked in the 201-220 range in the world. While ranking 110th in the world in the Environmental Impact category, it became the leading university in Türkiye. ITU, which is also in the leading position in Türkiye according to all Environmental Impact sub-metrics, entered the top 100 in the world in “Sustainable Education” and the top 20 in the world under the “Sustainable Institutions” heading. ITU ranked 373rd in the world and 3rd in Türkiye in the Social Impact category. According to the Social Impact sub-metrics, ITU ranked in the top 150 in the world in “Knowledge Exchange” and in the top 300 in the world in “Employability and Opportunities”.
