ITU adopts the Directorate of Higher Education’s Ethical Behavior Principles (

“academic freedom and autonomy”. Scientists working at the university are able to
share their ideas and knowledge with the society and have a guiding feature, both by choosing their study subjects and by presenting the subjects on which they work and are experts to the society and the public.

• In the report prepared by ITU’s scientists Prof. Dr. Ali Deniz, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Duran Şahin, Prof. Dr. Azime Tezer and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Dabanlı, main causes of loss of life and property as a result of the flood and inundation in the Western Black Sea Region on 11 August 2021 are presented to the public in an objective framework with scientific evidences and approaches by evaluating the findings through precipitation records and on-site observations.

• Istanbul Earthquake and Natural Disaster Meeting was Held at ITU
A meeting was held with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Earthquake and Natural Disaster Commission under the coordination of Istanbul Technical University to determine the actions and strategies for urban transformation and earthquake in Istanbul.

• Global warming melts glaciers in Antarctica- ITU Geomatics Engineering doctoral lecturer Selbesoğlu stated that according to the data obtained from GNSS stations, the glaciers melted noticeably rapidly, adding, "In addition, the amount of water vapor in Antarctica is gradually increasing due to global warming." said.

• One of Turkey's most important earth scientists, Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, made crucial statements about the seismicity of Turkey. Reminding that 24 cities, 2 of which are controversial, are on the fault line. Prof. Dr. Tüysüz announced 110 districts on the fault line in 45 provinces. Pointing out that the time has come for the big earthquake expected in Marmara, Tüysüz said, "When the earthquake expected in Marmara occurs, a point in Yalova will shift 5 meters west compared to a point in Istanbul."
